 A steady stream of fresh, engaging content is the key to getting more potential customers to discover and interact with you and your business.  What is engaging content?  It’s content that moves people to make that next step…like commenting on your post, by liking your link, by bookmarking your article, or even by sharing with their network of friends and followers. 


Here are 7 Tips for creating engaging content online:

1-Compelling Headlines-Crafting that compelling headline is vital to getting people to notice you online.  A great headline should create a benefit and then clearly convey what the content is all about.  Maybe it’s a relevant keyword to make sure your audience identifies with the rest of the content.  For example, “How to Look Ten Years Younger in Two Days,” or “Click Here to Learn How to Lose a Pound a Day”.

2-Entertaining Topics-Consumers enjoy reading, sharing and commenting on entertaining content such as humorous and timely commentary on news or events.  In fact entertainment is the number one reason people share content online.  Be interesting, be entertaining, be funny.

3-Helpful Tips-It’s great to entertain but it’s also very important to provide helpful and informative tips.  How to articles, best practices, educational videos, diet recipes, healthy living are a few types of content that will provide value to your audience and build trust in your brand.  People like to share content that they think will be helpful to their friends and consumers who engage with it are more likely to remember your business when they are actually ready to buy.

4-Great Deals and Offers-Ever heard of Groupon and Livingsocial?  These sites have given consumers easy access to deep discounts from local businesses.  Because online deals are so popular, you should share special discounts with your fans and followers.  Here’s how it works, you share special discounts with your fans and followers and then they turn around and share your discounts with their social networks.  It’s a win, win.

5-Photos and Videos-Again, photos and videos bring life to your business.  They also build trust.  Look for opportunities to share highlights of your products and services.  You can also share photos from community events and customer loyalty programs.  Find an inexpensive video camera and capture customer testimonials and then share them online.

6-Customer Involvement-Many customers love to get involved with their favorite local business, in fact, just the other day someone told me they follow some businesses because they think other people will think they were cool.  Weird?  Maybe you could highlight customers in  your content.  Recognize them by posting their testimonial, photo or comment on Facebook or @mentioning them on Twitter.  When you include posts that include consumers they are likely to earn a comment, share or retweet from the customers mentioned.  You can also involve your customers with engaging surveys, polls, contests or ANYTHING that encourage them to interact with you and your business.
