I often get the same questions from potential clients. How can I advertise my business online without spending a lot of money? Although I believe that it’s very important to ensure you show up where potential consumers who are ready to buy are looking for you, there are still a few ways to advertise your business for free.
You asked for it, so here you go!
2. Forums: Forums are a great free way to get your name out. Make sure the forums you join relate to your website topic. Never Spam anyone! Get involved in some of the discussions and contribute what you know. Put your website link in the signature column of your profile page. This will generate links every time you post to a discussion or ask a question. But, remember, never spam. The users hate this and they will ban you.
3- Blogging: Blogging is a great way to get current, relevant content about your business online for free. You can sign up for sites like blogger.com, tumblr.com or wordpress.com. It is easy to set up and is great for beginners. You can also visit other blogs and make great comments, then add your link to your signature so that when people read your comment they are inclined to visit your blog. Please make sure the comment is related to the topic of the blog you are visiting. Remember, no one likes spam. In fact, people really sort of hate spam. Don’t let them hate you.
4-Facebook-Yes, you need a Facebook page, for your business. This is a great way to advertise your business online and most importantly, it’s free and it’s easy to set up. Plus, you can post great offers and events on Facebook for those people that like you and then they will share your great offers and events with their followers. It’s really a win, win for everyone. Just remember, Facebook is a party and people don’t always want to talk business at a party. Try to engage with your followers and when they do engage make sure you respond to them.
5-Online Yellow Pages-There, I said it, you need to list your business on all the online yellow pages. Make sure when you do sign up that you put a website link back to your business. Most of the online yellow pages are free to get your business listed and they will probably try and call you to sell you more stuff. If they do, find out what their usage is, how many people go to your particular heading, how is it tracked and how long is the contract. My thoughts on the online yellow pages are that their usage is declining because Google, Msn, Bing and Yahoo have made it so easy for businesses to advertise locally, however, get yourself listed on these sites, it won’t hurt.
6-Local Map Listings-Google has them. Yahoo has them. MSN has them. Bing has them. You should go to these sites and claim your listings. It’s free and it’s easy. It just takes time. Don’t forget to put a website link back to your business.
7-Twitter-Get a twitter account, follow fellow Tweeters in Salt Lake City, post thought provoking comments, communicate with others and have a great day.
There you have it, 7 ways to advertise your business for free online. Seems easy, right? It’s very time consuming and my guess is that “most” business owners don’t have the time or the knowledge to follow through but getting your business online is imperative.
